Extinguish Anxiety Naturally – 10 Proven Interventions

Anxiety and stress attack most of us. Here are ten strategies that will help keep the blues off your doorstep! Unbeknownst to many, there are proven drug-free and biblical approaches to obtain and maintain mental health.

Here are tested strategies that I use to alleviate attacks of anxiety, worry, and stress. When I feel overwhelmed, I know that I must take immediate control over my thought life. Satanic attacks begin on the battlefield of the mind – through deception.

Jesus gave us the power to drive out every demonic influence that seeks to over-power us. We are not victims. The Bible says, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:2). Scripture also says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). The spiritual forces of knowledge and truth will obliterate feelings ofoverwhelm, fear, anxiety, stress, and panic.

It does not take weeks, months, or years to gain control of our minds – naturally. It takes trust in Jesus, faith in the Word of God, and the willingness to use the Word of God as consistently as we would take a medical prescription.

The below practices may sound too easy. Yet, these are the very tools that God used to turn my entire life around, to heal my mind, my broken heart, and my physical body. I could never experience the priceless benefit of daily peace of mind if I had been unwilling to listen to God or to obey.

The enemy may say to you, “You don’t have time, or it won’t work for you,” but that is a lie – don’t fall for it! Have you ever got up earlier to prepare for a necessary appointment? Have you ever stayed up later talking on the phone, dating, or watching TV? We make time for everything we truly want to do.

Wipeout fear, worry, stress, and anxiety by incorporating the following practices into your daily routine. If you do these things, I promise you that anxiety will lose its grip on your life. You can live a life that is characterized by peace and joy. Make these practices habitual. Memorize them, absorb this list and be able to turn to these spiritual tools at a moment’s notice.

1)    LEAN ON JESUS.  1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your cares on Him, for He cares for you.” This means that we must give all our worries to Jesus and leave them there – once and for all. The human body was not designed to carry negative emotions. Worry is a sin of unbelief (in God), but we can decide to put it down and use our faith to trust in Christ. When I’m tempted to worry, I will say out loud, “Jesus, I love you, and I trust you.”

2)    DAILY BIBLE STUDY IS OUR MOST POWERFUL WEAPON AGAINST ANXIETY. We don’t understand the power of daily Bible study until we begin to practice it. The Lord said, “Meditate on my Word day and night, and you will be successful in everything you do” (Joshua 1:8). The expanded verse is promising us that if we keep the Word of God foremost in our minds, we will know what to do in every situation. Of course, the Word must be mixed with faith. Through Bible study, we gain the wisdom of God to conquer and master every challenge. Even if we take fifteen minutes to read one chapter, studying the Bible has enormous benefits to dispel anxiety and protect our day. Journaling strengthens our learning experience.

3)    PRAISING GOD KICKS THE DEVIL OUT! God joins us as we worship Him (Psalm 22:3), and His Word tells us that He has given us the garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair (Isaiah 61:3). Praise is a powerful spiritual weapon. When we begin to praise and thank God out loud for all our blessings, we regain our sanity. Playing praise music and singing to God has a similar effect.

4)    GUARD YOUR MIND CAREFULLY. “We take every thought captive and make it obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Negative emotions are connected to negative thought patterns. We must train ourselves to stop (cut off) negative defeating thoughts immediately! The Bible says, “Cast them down!” God is never negative.  Negative thoughts and emotions are from Satan. They are demonic. Just say, no! The Bible says, do this instead, “Think about good things” (Philippians 4:8). Even in times of adversity, we must dare to have faith, which means we choose to trust in Christ for peace and a perfect outcome.

5)    STAND ON A SCRIPTURE. God’s Word is true. Find one scripture that you can memorize, stand on and say out loud in times of adversity. Repeat it over and over. Once, when I was facing financial challenges, I taped this scripture on the wall to my home office. “Anyone who trusts in Jesus will never be put to shame” ( ). I would sit at my desk and glance at it during the day. Sometimes I would say it out loud so that all of creation could be my witness. Over time, I was delivered miraculously delivered from that trial! God honored my faith.

6)    USE SPIRITUAL AUTHORITY. Jesus said, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My Name, they shall cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues” (Mark 16:17). As a believer, we can cast out any demon that is seeking to oppress us. If we feel overwhelmed, we can say with authority, “In the Name of Jesus, I command fear, doubt, worry, anxiety, and depression to leave – right now!” Then expect it to leave. Then turn on your praise and worship music and go on with your day.

7)    PRAY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT. Praying in tongues allows the Holy Spirit to intercede in prayer on our behalf (Romans 8:26). The Bible says we should “Earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual gifts” (1 Corinthians 10:5), and “Your Father in heaven will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him “(1 Corinthians 14:1). In Mark 16:17 above, it says that praying in tongues follows them that believe. This underscores the fact that praying in the Holy Spirit was given to the entire church for edification. If you have not been filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues, seek someone who does pray in tongues. They can lay hands on you for the impartation of this gift. Praying in tongues is a powerful weapon in our arsenal against the demonic attack of anxiety and depression. We will get to heaven without praying in tongues. We can walk in a higher level of spiritual authority if we allow the Holy Spirit to pray on our behalf (in His own spiritual language).

8)    AVOID NEGATIVE STRIFE-FILLED CONVERSATIONS AND WORDS. In the New Testament, we are commanded to walk in love with everyone. God’s commandment to love others as we love ourselves fulfills all ten commandments at once. Additionally, we know that the tongue can bring death and life (Proverbs 18:21). Words can bring healing; additionally, they can kill a person or destroy a marriage. This means that we cannot speak negatively about others or ourselves and expect joy or blessings to follow.

9)    PARTICIPATE IN ONGOING CHRISTIAN COUNSELING AND/OR OTHER CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP. One of the most prevalent attributes I’ve observed in depressed people is isolation. The enemy convinces people who are hurting that they should avoid the group fellowship of attending church, attending Bible studies, or even therapy. When we resist the desire to isolate ourselves, we begin to overthrow every force that seeks to oppress us. God never intended for any of His children to be lonely and depressed. Isolation is a trick of the devil. When we decide to fight anxiety and depression, we mustn’t be too proud to seek help. The Bible reminds us, “And let us not neglect meeting together and encouraging one another” (Hebrews 10:25).

10) INCORPORATE AUDIO TECHNOLOGY INTO YOUR DAY. One of my primary weapons against satanic attacks and against anxiety is listening to the Bible on audio. I listen to the Bible on audio as I fall asleep at night, and when I awake in the morning. I listen as I’m getting dressed in the morning. While traveling or washing dishes, I listen to Christian sermons, teachings and consume scores of Christian digital books via audio. Audio is a game-changer if you want to bombard your mind with knowledge and the truth of God’s Word. When we are listening to the Word of God in faith, there is no entryway for the defeating lies of the devil.

When I’m attacked by overwhelm or anxiety, I turn to Jesus. I give all my concerns to Him. I force myself to stop worrying and release my faith knowing that He is taking over. I begin to listen to my audio Bible non-stop. I praise God for His presence in my life, and I confess the truth out loud, which is, “Nothing is impossible for God” (Luke 1:37). The Bible says, “Submit yourself to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). When it comes to anxiety and depression, God has given us faith as our most potent weapon.

You may say, “Wow, that’s a lot to do!” Actually, it isn’t.  As we practice a few of these suggestions, we gradually incorporate more. One of the most surprising outcomes is that we are being healed emotionally and learning to solve challenges that once seemed impossible.

In the first book of Joshua, the Lord tells Joshua, “Be strong and courageous.” When we do this, God releases our ability to walk in the power, love, and sound judgment that He has freely given us (2 Timothy 1:7).
